On-line Pictorial Color Catalog of the Lions of Virginia (LOV)Trading Pins
This is a reissue of the Pictorial Color Catalog of the LOV Trading Pins, which was created and maintained for many years by PCC William “Bill” Smith. Virginia Lions and Lions Pin Traders are deeply indebted to Bill for the countless hours which he spent tracking down and cataloging all (known) Virginia Lions pins. This catalog contains all of the images that are included in the March 2011 Edition, except for the personal pins. A separate catalog to document the personal pins is being issued simultaneously with the catalog and will also be provided to you on the PTCV website. Please note that in the upper right corner of the pages, the date of issue is indicated. As changes are made to a particular page, the date of that issue will be properly noted.
NUMBERING SYSTEM - REGULAR PINS
A number has been assigned to each pin. The number not only provides a reference for users in identifying the pins they may be seeking, it also provides an “historical track”. As an example, you will find a pin identified as “MD 0036 87”. The first two letters identify the category, i.e., “MD” tells you the pin is a Multiple District pin. Next are four numbers to identify the number that was assigned to that particular pin, it also tells you how many pins have been issued in a category, i.e., “0036” tells you that this is the 36th pin identified in this category. The last two numbers, i.e. “87”, identifies the year the pin was issued. There are times when the last two numbers differ from the year shown on the pin. This happens when a pin is issued in the year prior to the year for which the pin is intended to commemorate an event. The best example of this is the fact that almost all of our annual MD pins are issued in the year prior to that shown on the pin. When you want to make reference to a pin, you only need to refer to the number assigned and the page on which it appears. This eliminates the need to go into detail to describe the pin.
NUMBERING SYSTEM - CLUB PINS
A Number has been assigned to each pin listed in the club catalog. There is a little variation from the numbering system used for all other pins in the PTCV Pictorial Color Catalog. You will see the pins being numbered in this fashion, such as F 0001 82, where the first letter represents the district in which the pin was issued, the four digit number represents the number assigned to the pin and the last number is the year the pin was issued.
The page designation is also a little different, for instance: CL-A-1, the frist two characters specify they are club pins (CL), the next character is used to designate the first letter of the club name (A), the last character is the page number (1).
Note: Following the club name, you will see two letters in parentheses, for example Alexandria Host (A/L). This indicates that the club was initially in District 24-A prior to the 2018 redistricting. Following the redistricting it is now in District 24-L.
